LeBron and Linear Equations

Adapted from tomstinson / NBA and Linear Equations

A basketball player scores either through making 2-point shots, 3-point shots or free throws. The point system works as follows:
Free throws = 1 point each
2-point shots = 2 points each
3-point shots = 3 points each

Now let's use some real data from game 7 of NBA Finals 2013. In that game, LeBron scored 37 points. He made 8 free throws and the number of 3-point shots he made is 5. How many 2-point shots did he make?

Number of 2-point shots = shots

Model this situation as follows:
Number of free throws + 2 × number of 2-point shots + 3 × number of 3-point shots = Score
